Some years back, there were a number of other Christians who used to rebuke me strongly, for using the word, "rapture".

They said that word was not in the scriptures, and so I should not use it for doctrine.

I began using the term, "blessed hope", initially to placate them.

Eventually, I preferred only using that term, rather than the word "rapture".

However, words like, "millennium", "happiness", "discourse" (as in Olivet Discourse"), 

"sermon" (as in Sermon on the Mount), and even the word, "Bible", are all not in the Bible.

But, I had been convinced out of using, "rapture", before realizing all that.

Later, I wanted to find out where the English word rapture came from.

The Latin Vulgate  (translated c. 4th century) used the word, "rapiemur", in I Thessalonians 4:17.

"rapiemur" is the first-person plural future passive indicative of the verb "rapiō"

and "raptus" is the singular masculine nominative participle of the verb "rapiō".

The English word rapture comes from that participle.

This is similar to the English word tractor, coming from the Latin participle "tractus", from the verb "trahō".

There are many other English words that come to us from Latin.

So, I'm not sure why so many were so offended by my using the word rapture - it's not catholic to use that word  :^)

A few did not want me to use that word, because they believe that only words in scripture should be used:

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

I Peter 4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Now, I can see their reasoning, and at least they are consistent, but they were only a handful that believe that way.

The majority, however, did not believe in only speaking words of scripture, but were still against using the word rapture.

They were clearly inconsistent, when they used words like Bible, etc.

I think that I'll continue to use blessed hope, but I do not want to rebuke someone for using the word rapture.
