"Something better was promised for the second temple:"

With the tabernacle, the glory filled the tabernacle when it was completed:

Exodus 40:34 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

With the first temple, the glory filled the temple when it was completed:

II Chronicles 7:2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house.

And in both cases, the presence of the LORD was in the holiest of all. over the mercy seat, between the cherubims.
This presence could only be experienced by the high priest, and that only on the day of atonement.
However, something better was promised for the second temple:

Haggai 2:9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

The glory of the LORD, came into the temple when Jesus waked in.
His presence was experienced by anyone who chose to come near and hear him teach.
