"too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good?"

(Do not, too many, too often, remark about believers, "You're too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good"?

Would they not, then, consider what Paul wrote to the Colossians, to be very bad advice?)

Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

(Why would they think that if our affections are on things above, that we cannot be of any earthly good?

Would they think what Paul wrote to the Ephesians, something to completely distract us from being any good?)

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

(Would they consider believers selfish, to consider that they are already blessed in heavenly places, and somehow, already seated in heavenly places?

Would they consider the following Proverb to be completely the opposite of their world view?)

Proverbs 15:24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

(Would they, then, consider what Jesus said, to be misdirected?)

Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

(Do they consider the invisible things to not even exist?)

II Corinthians 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

(Would they prefer that believers, rather, should be looking for the next election, instead of looking for the blessed hope?)

Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

(Would they consider Stephen, then, to have been so ultimately heavenly minded, that he was of absolutely no earthly good whatsoever?)

Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

(Would they prefer that believers look for the next presidential candidate, instead?)

Philippians 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

(Will there not come a time when they will realize that being earthly minded will only avail them fear?

Will they then be forced, too late, to be heavenly minded?

When for them, will it also be in fear, but for the remnant of Israel, will it be for redemption?)

Luke 21:26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
