"Why doesn't Israel rebuild the tabernacle first?"

Why doesn't Israel rebuild the tabernacle first?
There is currently such great controversy surrounding the temple mount.
It could possibly still take some time before Israel can rebuild the temple there.
In the interim, they could rebuild the tabernacle.
They were able to take that tabernacle throughout the wilderness, to Shiloh, and then to the high place in Gibeon.
Perhaps it would it be unacceptable to consider having the tabernacle without the ark.
However, from the time Eli died, the ark was no longer in the most holy place of the tabernacle.
After the Philistines returned it, it came to Bethshemesh, then it went the house of Abinadab, then to the house of Obededom.
Then David brought the ark to Jerusalem, into the tabernacle that he pitched for it.
It would seem, that for close to a century, the tabernacle was used without the ark.
That would have been similar to how the second temple worked, apparently.
At such a time, when they can rebuild the temple on the mount, they can then bring the tabernacle to it, as Solomon did.
So, why doesn't Israel rebuild the tabernacle first?
