Will Jerusalem remain under Israel's control until the great tribulation?

Revelation 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

It says that the Gentiles will tread the holy city under foot for  3½  years, so apparently, they will they not be treading it under foot, before that?
