"Is May 14th, 2011 the 63rd anniversary of Israel's Independence Day?"

Hello, John and Doves,

Is May 14th, 2011 the 63rd anniversary of Israel's Independence Day in 1948?

No, Independence Day observance always follows Memorial Day observance back-to-back.  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_Hazikaron [Memorial Day] and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_Ha-Atzma%27ut [Independence Day].

This year, 5771/2011, Independence Day is celebrated one day late, on 6 Iyyar, 5771/10 May, 2011.

What, then, is the spiritual significance of 14 May, 2011?

That happens to be a Sabbath day, whose Parshah [weekly Torah reading] is Behar [Leviticus 25:1 to 26:2].

A careful reading of the Parshah of May 14, 2011 reveals a discussion of the Kinsman Redeemer!  Jesus is our Kinsman Redeemer!  See also the book of Ruth.  Ruth is a type of the Gentile Bride.

I believe this is what so excites Dr. Owuor.  The Gentile observance of Yom HaAtzmaut is just a pointer to a deeper truth.

Baruch HaShem Adonai,
