"getting "prophetic insight" from the wrong people?"

What is so appealing about getting "prophetic insight" from the wrong people?
Israel was instructed to avoid them:

Deuteronomy 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

Yet, that is what they had such a hard time resisting:

I  Samuel 28:6 And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

7 Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

Isaiah 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

The Macedonians apparently had a similar tendency to be drawn to them, as well:

Acts 16:16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

So, now, today, even though we have been saved, and have the full counsel of God available to us (the scriptures), we find ourselves similarly drawn to these wrong sources.

We pay heed to the writings of a medieval catholic priest about prophecies concerning the future of the popes.

He didn't give the gospel, nor did he warn people against idols, or praying to a goddess - no, none of those things - only, instead, snippets about upcoming popes.

Or we'll even read from the quatrains of the astrologer Nostradamus (who "began exploring the occult after a supposed psychic awakening"), to predict the future.

Or we even pay heed to the secrets of Fatima, given by some kind of goddess apparition, to three young children.

Or we even sometimes check our horoscope or read from a fortune cookie.

I've been guilty of all these, even after I was saved.
Should I have? No, these things are wicked, and all I did was grieve the Spirit.
