(Under the ministry of Jehoiada the priest, Joash did right:)

II Chronicles 24:2 And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

(But apparently, without the continued good teaching and preaching, Joash instead listened to the voices of the world:)

II Chronicles 24:17 Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.

  18 And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.

(So, then Joash departed from the LORD, and Judah and Jerusalem followed him.

But at that point, Joash, and even the people, no longer responded to the preaching:)

II Chronicles 24:19 Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

(Then, similarly regarding Joash's grandson, Uzziah, it says:)

II Chronicles 26:5 And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.

(Apparently, he also was also greatly affected by the preaching and teaching of another man of God, in his day, named Zechariah.

Uzziah continued to seek the LORD while Zechariah lived, and the LORD made him to prosper.

But, apparently after Zechariah passed, like his grandfather had done, he turned:)

II Chronicles 26:16 But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

(I need to learn from these things, and to pay heed:)

I Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

(Sadly, it is even possible for this to happen, even while I'm under good preaching, if I let my heart be turned away.)
