Correct, that was truly horrible, hideous, sickening, and yes, evil, very wicked.

They had to be possessed to do these things to other human beings.

But what about the moment, they themselves, descend into torment?

Not only is hell a place of torment and flames, but apparently there tormentors there:

Matthew 18:34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

  35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Are there celestial beings, down there, in hell, whose task is to further torment some of the people there?

The rich man in hell, that Jesus spoke of, was suffering, but there was no tormentors mentioned, inflicting greater suffering upon him.

Maybe those tormentors only torment particular people.

We all deserve to go to hell, then to the lake of fire, and to suffer torments forever, so I best be careful, and not go any further with this.

We all love to classify sins, as some worse than others, but James 2:10 puts that to rest:

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Also, death came upon all men, and the curse upon the whole earth, by someone eating fruit they were told not to.

We would never classify that, up there with murder, and war crimes, but the results were even worse.
