In Matthew chapters 24 and 25 Jesus answers the disciples the question of, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
 In it Jesus tells all to pay attention to the prophet Daniel for understanding about the focal event of this teaching that he called the “abomination of desolation.” 
Jesus is God, he is not predicting what will happen, he is telling us what will happen.
I’m a big Jesus guy. I’m going to obey him and look to the prophet Daniel. 
 Verses in NKJV

Matthew 24:15 Jesus said, “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee…
24 For then there will be “great tribulation,” such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.”

That’s Revelation chapters 6-19, Isaiah 24, the judgment of the unsaved world. 
But to the Church, Jesus says, “Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you FROM the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.” Rev. 3:10.
 We as Christians have been tested and have passed that test. The test is faith in Jesus and the proof that we passed is living for him. We don’t have to worry about a future testing for the unsaved world.

Jesus told us to look to Daniel, so let’s go there. Daniel 9:27 may be one of the most important prophecies in the Bible. The world leader will confirm a 7 year plan then 1/2 way into it he will stop the sacrifices in the future Jewish temple and desecrated it. The seven years that we call the Tribulation starts with the day that he signs the covenant. It is this verse more than any other that defines that this period is seven years. Then after the abomination of desolation he will persecute the Jews for 3 1/2 years, Rev. 12:13-17. This is what Jesus was pointing us to in Matt. 24:15 as the timing event for his end time teaching, and how in Daniel it involved this coming world leader, and his relationship to Israel.

Daniel 9:27 “Then he (Antichrist) shall confirm a covenant with many (Israel) for one week (7 years); But in the middle of the week (3 1/2 years) He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. 
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.”

Paul talks about this event. Yes there will be a future Jewish temple and the “man of sin” will walk into it and declare himself God, that’s desecrating it. That begins the 3 1/2 years that Jesus called, “the Great Tribulation.” Jesus said to the Jews, “if you see that event and you live in Israel or Judea flee, for it will be the worst time in human history.“

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Paul says, …and the man of sin (Antichrist) is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
