"Understanding Lunar/Solar eclipses and scripture"

Dear Doves

We all know that there was darkness at the time Jesus died at the cross. Astronomically, a solar eclipse at Passover can only happen if there is another object (not the moon!) between the sun and the earth.

A (total) Solar eclipse only ever happens at New Moon.

A (total) Lunar eclipse only ever happens at Full Moon.

Passover is 14 days after New Moon (nearly exactly between Full and New Moon).
-> It needs another object between the Sun and the earth or maybe it simply was another kind darkness caused by God himself.

It is interesting to note that there are various scriptures about "The sun and the moon will be darkened at the great day of the LORD". If they really refer to solar and lunar eclipses caused by objects in the sky, it means they can't happen simultaneously with our currently known objects in the sky. It needs other objects or another kind of darkness.

The astronomically simplest way to cause a simultaneous total solar and total lunar eclipse is when an object passes between the sun and the earth at the time of full moon.
