(Even though this describes the trials of those in the past, won't this very likely also picture what it will be like in the tribulation?)
Hebrews 11:35b and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
(It will be a horrible and fearful time for Israel)
Psalms 55:3 Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.4 My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.5 Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.
(The desire will be to flee, as Jesus had warned, to flee into the wilderness:)
6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.7 Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah.
(The word, Selah, is used for a pause, to reflect, yet strangely, it had been the name of the place that is now called Petra. So, could the words, here, “wilderness” and “Selah”, be an odd coincidence, or do they hint as to where they will flee?In Revelation chapter 12, Israel flees to the wilderness, and many have believed that to possibly be Petra, which is in the area of Bozrah, Edom, in modern day Jordan.)
8 I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.
(Jesus will come, destroy their enemies, cast the antichrist alive into the lake of fire, and the devil into the bottomless pit:)
15 Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.23 But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.
(Even though they will be surrounded by enemies, those hid in the wilderness will be protected until Jesus comes from heaven:)
Psalms 57:1 Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.3 He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth his mercy and his truth.4 My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
(Israel will need to flee to the wilderness, to be hid, until the tribulation is past, and Jesus returns from heaven:)
Isaiah 26:20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.
(Jesus tells Israel in advance, when to flee, when the antichrist goes into the temple and the abomination of desolation is placed.)
Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
(For those who do not flee, it will be severe, great tribulation:)
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
