Will the sun set in Israel at noon?

What about the rest of the planet?

Amos 8:9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

What does it mean that the sun will go down at noon?

Is that more than simply getting dark?

Will people observe a sunset at noon?

Obviously it is not due to clouds, as he said that he will darken the earth in the clear day.
