Were both the angel and John sitting at the beginning of Revelation 11?

Revelation 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.

It said that the angel stood, so was he sitting before that?

The angel told John to rise, so was he also sitting before that?

If so, where were they sitting, in heaven or on the earth?
