"New credit card surcharge to take effect tomorrow"

Here’s the official details:

http://visasearch.visa.com/UsaSearch/query.html?qt=surcharge+fees&x=22&y=12&col=usa&qs=&ws=0&st=1&style=usa

The only way to avoid these surcharges (up to 4 percent) is to use a debit card but you must enter your PIN number. If you use your debit card without entering your PIN number the surcharge will apply.

This surcharge is merchant driven. The credit card companies and the banks were and are against it. The two sides did battle in court and the merchants won. The decision gives the merchant the right to apply up to a 4 percent surcharge but the merchant is not required to. Guess who will get my business?
