(Jesus is looking for repentance:)
II Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
(Yet, there are those who will not repent:)
Matthew 11:20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
Matthew 21:32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
Revelation 2:21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
Revelation 9:20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
(However, Jesus apparently offers repentance up to the very last second:)
Luke 23:33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
(In the other letter sent in this week, "What happens to them?", it seems there may be some people, in various parts of the earth, that will not have the mark, by the end of the tribulation.Could that possibly even include some of the leaders and kings of some of those nations, especially the ones far away from the seat of the beast?Considering that all the kings of the earth do not follow the beast into battle, as his devoted, loyal worshippers. But rather, some of the kings need a lot of persuasion before they go, like miracles:)
Revelation 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
(So, what if some of the kings, which do not have the mark, repent at the last second?Psalm 2 appears to be referring to this battle, with the first three lines from the perspective of the kings of the earth:)
Psalms 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
(Then the next six lines from the perspective of the LORD:)
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
(Then in the last three lines, there appears to be a final warning to the kings:)
10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
(That last line appears to offer hope to those at that battle, who do not have the mark, and who repent at the last second, like the thief on the cross.Perhaps, at that moment when Jesus returns in his full glory, some there, at that battle, may fall to their knees, and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. While thousands all around them are consumed while they stand upon their feet:)
Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
(So, would it not be like Jesus, who looks for repentance, and saw one thief repent while dying on the cross?May also grant repentance to some at that battle at Jerusalem, who had not received the mark?If so, that, in addition to the destruction of the armies, may give great glory to Jesus.)
