Occasionally we are reminded about the people in Germany and Poland, that did nothing when the Jews were sent by trains to the camps, then gassed and burnt.
It seems unbelievable to think about, but it happened,
Proverbs 24:11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
This seems to reflect that.
It also seems to describe many of us Christians, from the days of Roe v Wade, until now.
Like the Germans and Poles that could have tried to save lives, we had reasons, like theirs, for not doing or saying anything.
Would we stand by if we saw someone striking a little child in public, or stomping on a tiny kitten or puppy?
Even people we knew got abortions.
Will we be able to say to Jesus, at the bema seat, like line 12, “Behold, we knew it not”?
Not too many rewards for us Christians, who knew that tiny unborn babies were being viscously murdered, while we went on our merry way.
There may be another aspect for us, with these two lines in Proverbs 24.
How many people that we knew, we let pass out of this world, without ever giving them the gospel?
Not too many rewards for that either.
What if us Christians are allowed to witness the great white throne judgment?
What if there is someone there we knew, and as they are about to be cast into the lake of fire,
they look directly at us, and cry out, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Maybe we’ll have a couple seconds to tell them that we were afraid that they wouldn’t have liked us anymore, if we had given them the gospel.
Or that we were afraid that they would have gotten angry at us.
They’ll understand, right?
