Quake Swarm Raises Kilauea Volcano ALERT Level:

in 2018, I forecasted the eruption of
Kilauea volcano, including the exact magnitude (M6.9)
and date within about 12 hours. In the past few months, I
have again been watching the data and repeatedly indicated
that another eruption was going to happen in the near
future. This article suggests the same likelihood.
The
on-going swarm on the Big Island has been increasing in recent
weeks in both numbers of quakes and magnitudes, which is
exactly what we would expect to see when magma is moving under
the surface indicating an eruption is near. We
could be a few days to a few weeks from an eruption, depending
on several variables.
It’s
time to be on
ALERT for that possibility again. Because an eruption
generally occurs at the same time as a very large magnitude
quake, I have increased the top-end potential magnitude in my
forecasts.

for an eruption event.
I
do not typically forecast volcanic eruptions, but I have done
so accurately a number of times in the past few years.
