Rev. 11:2 shows us that the Gentiles tread underfoot the holy city (Jerusalem) 42 months, and according to Rev. 13:5 power is given unto the beast (Antichrist) to continue 42 months.  Since the Antichrist must be a Gentile, he can't sit in the temple of God to show himself that he is God until his Gentile army invades Jerusalem and takes over the Temple Mount nor can the image of the beast set up to be worshipped nor the mark of the beast implemented until the time the Gentiles take over the city of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. This is when the Great Tribulation begins according to Matt. 24:21 when those residing in Judea are told to flee into the mountains when they see the abomination of desolation (image of the beast) stand in the holy place.
