"not commanded to feel something?"

When Jesus said:

Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

He wasn't saying that people were commanded to "feel love", or experience the "emotion of love", was he?
Wasn't he referring rather to the commandment being about one's response to the Lord and his word?
Even for us now, even though we are not under the law, but under grace, still, do we not love him, because he first loved us?
