The original Easter began in darkness. As a matter of fact, the
human Christ cried out at the height of his crucifixion: 'My
God, my God, why have you forsaken me."
³On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdalene came to
the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw
the stone removed from the tomb.² (From today¹s Gospel
reading, John. 20:1). ³While it was still dark.² The
original Easter began in darkness. As a matter of fact, the
human Christ cried out at the height of his crucifixion:
³My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?² (Mark.
15:34). Only to be followed later on by the resurrected Christ,
lovingly addressing his disciples: ³Peace be with
you.² (Luke.24:36).
This was the way it was with Christ, literally and
symbolically. And this is the way it is to be for each of
us who follow his ways. Light begins to come in the midst of
darkness.
