"You say pre trib I say…"

You say pre trib I say…

Hi Doves,

Defining of terms is often skipped over when the discussion of tribulation comes up.  Some actually reference the time frame in years rather than the condition of tribulation.  So, I’d like to offer a perspective as food for thought.

In scripture it is clearly stated that the apostles already considered themselves in tribulation in the first century.  This is supported by their experiences and deaths.  So, regardless of where one thinks we are regarding the end times we are and have been in tribulation.  Interestingly, it is clear that the age of Grace and the age of tribulation are commensurate.

This leaves the term Great Tribulation.  If there is a distinction, this is where we should find it.  If your personal perspective is the traditional “7 year tribulation” time frame, then the question is whether all 7 years are a Great Tribulation?  Or, is Great tribulation the defined 3 ˝ years under the Beast warring, and, is this the same as the time of God’s wrath?

Pause and go back, because this is where a clear concept is necessary and must be reconciled to scripture.

Others, including me, look for something closer to a 3 ˝ year end time of Great tribulation.  I am not saying or debating this is absolutely correct.  This post is only meant to offer a way to discuss the issues using the same vocabulary.  So, in this way of thinking the tribulation goes until the Great Tribulation when the Beast is ruling in fierceness.  At the same time, God’s wrath is pouring down on the earth.

It is also possible that the Beast may have a nearly free reign for the better part of 3 ˝ years.  Then, following is a time of God’s wrath.  I have an opinion of what is most likely, but am not completely sure.

For example, If I think the Great Tribulation is 3 1/2 years and there is no specific 7 year period at the end, then I am pre-trib when a 7 year supporter would see the same as mid-trib.  If we set aside the generic term tribulation and define Great Tribulation for each view, then we are using the same language.

Concluding, I offer that a distinction between tribulation and Great Tribulation would simplify these discussions.  And, if you follow the “seven year model” determine if the 3 ˝ years of “peace” are part of the Great Tribulation.  So often these things are discussed with a mixing of terms.  God Bless.
